The United Kingdom of Great Britain after the II World War

I would like to describe the situation in The Kingdom of Great Britain after the II World War 1945-1997 Great Britain after the second World War After the II World War the Labour Party with Clement Atlee were electedThey promised inter alia as the creation of a National Health Service and nationalisation of the major industries. The UK at the time was poor, relying heavily on loans from the United States of America (which were finally paid off in February 2007). Nevertheless, morale was boosted by events such as the marriage of Princess Elizabeth in 1947 and the Festival of Britain. In the 1950s rebuilding continued but the UK had lost its place as a superpower and could no longer maintain its large Empire. This led to decolonization, and a withdrawal from almost all of its colonies by 1970. The 1960s were, however, relatively prosperous times after the Second World WarThe first...

    What are stories

The term “stories” can be associated with many things. For some, they may be remembrances, or sad moments. Me? I believe that stories are memories. Stories kill time, make people smile, sometimes make them sad, or angry. They can derive a variety of different emotions. Nevertheless, they always have a lesson in them, or as my mom would call it, a moral; they have a purpose in being told. For example, there is a poem in polish literature about an owl. It tells a story of an owl who read books each night, until it went blind. This poem taught a lesson to not read at night. My mom made me memorize the whole poem when I was 10, because she caught me reading books under the covers with only the light of a single flashlight. Stories can also be memories, like the interview we did in class. We interviewed our parents and got a glimpse at their childhood. Throughout the interview I...

Nataneal West "The Day of the Locust". Tod and Faye- comparison.

Nathaneal West is an important American novelist. He has specific point of view on American society and its behaviors. In the novel The Day of the Locust he describes the Hollywood dream world, and people who are trapped in that world trying to reach the goals they set for themselves. They are often fanatical and act obsessively. They do not see much of reality and are trapped in their self-centered dreams. Most of them seem to be good people, at a first glance, but they reveal they real selves in certain kind of situations: under stress, under influence of alcohol, or when their passions take over their behaviors. Among all the characters in The Day of The Locust we meet Tod and Faye. Tod is a newcomer to Hollywood who is fascinated with that place in many different ways. Faye is an actress who dreams of becoming a Hollywood star. Both these characters are very fascinating and...

    My Room

My room At the entrance to my room, there is a normal size white painted door. On your left you will see an big poster with a dog floating on a huge banana with a sign saying “COWABUNGA!!!”. Right under the poster there is a calendar. By the entrance, to your right, there is a colorful world map. Under the map is my bed, where I sleep every day. Behind my bed there is a old window, To the right of the window stands a very high bookshelf. I have so many books I needed to make an electronic library. On bookshelf there is mostly books, but also some of my old games, that now belong to my three year old brother. By the bookshelf there is my wooden desk, where I usually do my homework. Under my desk there is whole bunch of electric cables, from all of my sharpeners and nightlights and a bunch of other different stuff. On the right side of my desk there is some other bookshelves...

    Pollution

The living conditions on our planet are getting worse and worse. The growing pollution makes many places on Earth unsuitable to sustain life. Something needs to be done about it, because otherwise it could have very tragic consequences for all the living things. The most dangerous of all is air pollution. The reason for it are mainly exhaust gases emitted into the atmosphere. Emissions of sulphur, carbon dioxide and derivative products of oil cause the so called “greenhouse effect”. The short-sighted policy resulted in the rapid change of the worlds climate due to the depletion of the ozone layer. We need to take the case in our hands. Firstly, we can prevent the contamination of air by putting filters on factory chimneys, for example. This is very expensive, but it is worth the prize - imagine that you would never again suffer from breathing problems! Another good...

Have you ever known a leader who had to win at any cost? Describe the impact on you? What are some of the differences between having power and being a leader? What kinds of behaviour do I wish to change in myself to better understand others?

    1. Introduction Power is a very important thing when we talk about leadership skills, but it depends how it is used. It may be used for personal achievements to compete with others and seek situations in which one can win over another. Power also might be used to transform people and organizations and this use of power is positive as well as it is beneficial for everyone. 2. Main body From my experience, I have met leaders who use personalized power. (Sashkin, M. & Sashkin, G., 2003) During my studies I had an opportunity to work with that type of a leader. We had to work in big groups where work should be divided, everyone should have felt influential and participate in the meetings. The whole group did not benefit from the meetings because our leader did not consider anyone’s opinion other than his, and was ignoring different points of view within a group. As a member...
